Rhonda is a certified Iyengar Yoga instructor. Rhonda has been interested in yoga since she attended her first class when living in France in 1998. During her twenties she took classes in various styles of yoga. She taught herself pregnancy yoga from a book and found it very helpful during the home births of her two children in 2001 and 2003.
Her discovery of Iyengar yoga when living in county Clare in 2009 inspired her to deepen her yoga practice considerably. Rhonda attended a weekly Iyengar yoga class for over three years in the East Clare Yoga Centre. She thoroughly enjoyed the classes, started to practice yoga at home and appreciated the books written by Mr. B.K.S Iyengar. Realising that yoga would be a lifelong interest of hers, Rhonda decided to start the two year Introductory Level 2 teacher training course in 2012 which would allow her to work as a yoga teacher.
This involved attending a monthly weekend course in Dublin, maintaining a regular home practice, completing essays and passing a rigorous annual assessment. Rhonda was delighted to receive her teaching certificate in October 2014 and has been teaching a weekly class since March 2015.
Iyengar yoga has been developed by Mr. B.K.S Iyengar (1918 – 2014). It involves the practice of traditional hatha yoga poses/asanas carried out in a sequence that respects the physiology of the human body and over time bring harmony, balance, stability, strength and flexibility to the body and mind. Props such as blocks, bolsters and belts are often used to help each individual attain correct body alignment and posture in a safe and stable way.
Rhonda (BA Language & Cultural Studies – French & Spanish) lives in Ballynacarriga with her two children and works as a Teleconference Event Manager in PGi, West Cork Technology Park, Clonakilty.
